Given what I know so far about Sotomayor, I can't help but look at a picture like this and think: freak. She doesn't even hardly seem human anymore. She looks just like all the other cold, pale, bloated politicians who have sold their souls for politicial gain and replaced them with money pouches. Now she would have us believe that her numerous statements regarding her belief that a "wise Latina woman would come to a better decision than a white male" were just "rhetorical flourishes" She has repeatedly made statements like that in her speeches since 1994. I would challenge everyone to simply swap the words "Latina Woman" and "White Male" in her speech and imagine it being given by a white male and then wager on how long it would take Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, the NAACP and every other minority acronym to call for his head. How long would it take the current administration to shift into damage control mode and make a new nomination?Our buddy Don Imus ( not an Imus fan ) was railroaded out of town for a single comedic phrase of "those girls look like nappy headed ho's". But it would seem our supreme court justices can be as blatently racist and sexist as they please as long as they are protected by the politically correct thought police; which, unfortunately, Don Imus was not.
Then there is her long time membership in the Belizean Grove. An exclusively female social club that she, until just recently when it came out, belonged to. I got no problem with her belonging to an all female club, maybe she like's women. But have the character to admit it. Accept it and be judged based on it. Don't sell the club down the river once it becomes a political liability.
She's going to spend a few days on capital hill, lying her ass off to try and spin who she is into what she thinks the congress and American's want and then she'll be confirmed and we'll have nothing more than an immoral new supreme court justice on the bench with no more integrity than any other criminal.
I don't think there's anything wrong with be racist or sexist. Those are human characteristics that can not be legislated away. In fact freedom protects one's right to be so. But what I want on the highest court in the land are people with morals, integrity, character, honor and courage.
This "Latina" thing is anything but. She plays ball. She's part of the capital hill gang. Just one more cog in the political machine. Oh congress will make a show of it for their constituents so the voters will think they are working int their best interests but in the end she'll be confirmed and we'll be one step closer to end of what our founding fathers termed: the great experiment.
